Obstfeld, Renée - Ph.D., LP, LCAT is a licensed psychoanalyst and art therapist. She has worked extensively with people struggling with self-harm, substance and process addictions, and co-occurring challenges. She has applied art therapy to work with Female Veterans, suicide survivors and survivors of attempted suicide, and at Bellevue Hospital’s World Trade Center Clinic and Program for Survivors of Torture. Currently in private practice, her focus is on early developmental stressors and the ways they carry into adulthood. Often, they do so in the form of addictions and other manifestations of shame and affect dysregulation. Her approach to treatment emphasizes the therapeutic relationship as a containing backdrop against which internal splits can be mended, and early losses grieved.
